Lace up your athletic shoes and join the community in raising funds to support the students and employees in Yorkville Community Unit School District 115. The Yorkville Educational Foundation (YEF), in collaboration with the Yorkville CUSD 115 Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTO) and booster organizations, is hosting a Virtual Team YEF 5K/Fun Run.

Event participants can register to complete their run/walk anytime starting Sept. 21 and culminating with the official “Yorkville Runs Day” on Sept. 27.

“The Virtual 5K/Fun Run is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together to help raise funds for our School District in such a unique time,” said YEF Vice President Kristine Black. “Whether you’re an experienced long-distance runner or just want to walk or run 1.2 miles on race day, we have several options for you to join Team YEF.”

Registrants can select from a variety participation options. Supporters can participate in the Virtual 5K Run/Walk for a $25 donation; children ages 13 and younger can join the Fun Run 1.15 mile run/walk for a $10 donation; or families (up to two adults and four children) can participate in the Family Run for a $75 donation.

Each participant will be able to designate a portion of their donation to support one of the sponsoring organizations (YEF or a District 115 PTO or booster organization). There is also an opportunity for participants to become a “charity hero” and raise money individually to support the group of their choice. District supporters who are unable to join the race can assist in the effort by helping participants reach their fundraising goal or by volunteering to help on race day.

“We are greatly appreciative of the ongoing support of our schools by the District partners organizing this wonderful event,” said Yorkville CUSD 115 Superintendent Tim Shimp. “Through unity we are stronger, and I am hopeful we can generate a tremendous amount of community participation in the "Yorkville Runs Day!"

Registration is currently open. Participants are encouraged to visit, choose their race and the group they want to support, and then follow “Yorkville Runs” at to join in on some friendly competition. Medals will be awarded to all participants.

Money raised by the Yorkville Educational Foundation helps provide innovative programs and opportunities for students, as well as grants and recognition events for employees.
