Imagination will work overtime when the McHenry Outdoor Drive-In Theater celebrates Christmas in July with screenings of "Elf" and "Christmas Vacation," beginning Friday, July 24, and offers a special Saturday showing at 6 p.m. July 25 of a new country music concert starring Blake Shelton.
Tickets only will be sold at the box office that evening. There will be no online or pre-purchased admissions. Vehicles are spaced out for social distancing.
The website notes: "Box office opens no later than 6:30 p.m., however, once the lines at the entrance reach the road, we must open earlier in an effort to eliminate traffic congestion. We recommend arriving early to get a ticket as capacity is limited."
Although radios will be available for rent at the box office for $5, patrons are encouraged to bring their own radios or to listen to the movies at 89.9 FM from inside the car. Speakers on the poles will be turned on. Concessions are offered.
"Blake Shelton and Friends Drive-In Only Recorded Concert" kicks off at 6 p.m. July 25. Joining Shelton will be Gwen Stefani and Trace Adkins. The newly recorded content is available exclusively for participating drive-in theaters. It will be shown only on July 25.
"Elf," starring Will Ferrell, will be part of a double feature with "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Movie." Shows are planned through July 30 except July 25.
