Officials at Raging Waves water park in Yorkville are planning to open a few weeks later this summer because of the pandemic, according to a statement on the water park's website, https://www.ragingwaves.com/covid.

The park was set to open for the season June 6.

A portion of the statement by Randy Witt, park founder and CEO, reads: "Like all of you, we are anxiously awaiting the start of summer fun, but we all must continue to do our part to keep our families healthy and safe. Therefore, we have adjusted our schedule and plan to open later in June or thereafter."

The statement continues, "Rest assured, we will be following all guidelines outlined by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and state of Illinois. As always, your safety is our number one concern! ... Raging Waves has always been known as one of the cleanest water parks in the world and it should come as no surprise that we will continue to uphold the same cleanliness standards you've come to expect. We look forward to providing you and our team members a safe, clean experience this summer."

The statement concludes: "Our entire team looks forward to seeing you this summer, seeing 'old' friends and making new! Prayers from our family to yours, Randy Witt, park founder and CEO."

Since it opened 12 years ago at 4000 N. Bridge St. (Route 47), Raging Waves annually has attracted thousands of swimming enthusiasts of all ages throughout the summer months.

When it does open for the season, the water park will feature a new attraction, the Aussie Mat Dash. One of three six-lane racing slides in the world, the Mat Dash will give riders the chance to race their friends and family through turning lanes to see who is first to reach the checkered pattern at the bottom of the slide, according to information on the water park's website.
