FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, 7 p.m. Nov. 29, downtown Crystal Lake. Join us for Santa's arrival from the North Pole. Decorated floats, marchers and music make this an evening of enchantment. This is the only nighttime parade in Crystal Lake. The parade kicks off at city hall, heading south on Caroline Street, east on Crystal Lake Avenue, north on Grant Street, east on Woodstock Street, and then south on Williams Street. The parade will officially end at the corner of Williams Street and Crystal Lake Avenue to light the downtown Christmas Tree. After lighting the tree, Santa will visit with children at the Santa House in Brink Street Market.
LIGHTING OF THE SQUARE, 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29, Woodstock Square, Van Buren St., Woodstock. Visit the beautiful and historic Square on the Friday after Thanksgiving and help the city of Woodstock usher in the official start to the holiday season. With the flip of a switch, tens of thousands of twinkling lights are illuminated on trees and buildings, ushering in the magic of Christmas in a Victorian-era setting.
McHENRY COUNTY SANTA RUN, 9 a.m. Dec. 1, Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. The Kiwanis Club of Crystal Lake was challenged in 2011 by several agencies in McHenry County to help raise money for them. These agencies include Turning Point, Big Brothers Big Sisters, CASA, Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois and Main Stay Therapeutic Farm. The event offers its participants a full Santa suit including a hat, beard, top, bottom and belt. A Santa long-sleeve shirt with hat and beard is optional. This family fun event already is a tradition for many who have participated. The sea of Santa's sauntering through the streets is spectacular to see. WOODSTOCK CHRISTMAS PARADE, 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1, Woodstock Opera House, 121 Van Buren St., Woodstock. If you love parades and are in the holiday spirit, be sure to join in welcoming Santa and Mrs. Claus as they join our Christmas Parade around the Square. After the parade, come over to the old fire station behind city hall and enjoy cookies and milk with Santa – and tell him what you want for Christmas. Hosted by the city of Woodstock.
